March...

The snow will eventually melt... or so they tell us!  Soon, we will be back outside on our bikes, in our sneakers without layers and layers of clothing, optimistically in the open water by late May....

Put your email address in the box on the left of this screen and follow the adventures and training of the SBR Endurance team...

From experience Ironman participants, to the first time doing a sprint triathlon participant and everything in between!

We welcome you to follow our journeys!

The Year of the Sneakers

I am not a runner.

I am a couch potato.

I hate running.

I am the queen of excuses on why I can not get on the treadmill to get a workout done.

I can motivate everyone around me to get a workout done when it comes to their sneakers, but nope. not me...

I decided at the end of 2014 that, that little list needed to change...

and I determined that the best way to fix something that I don't like or am super weak at - is to throw myself into it... I decided to focus on my running and see what I can accomplish in 2015.

I have 4 1/2 marathons scheduled and one marathon, for 2015. Yes. you read that correctly, a marathon.

In 232 days, I am tackling the Mount Desert Island Marathon in Bar Harbor, Maine.  33 weeks from Sunday... PLENTY OF TIME!

Today, I can barely run a single mile without stopping, and I think on a good day I have a solid 12:00 per mile pace...

But I have a plan. It might not be to finish first, or even in the top 50%. But it is to stick with something, to see it to the very end. Follow the plan of attack and do the absolute best that I can do... and hope that I cross that line with a smile on my face!

Training is ongoing with my tri schedule, but I will start really tracking miles the week of April 19th. if anyone wants to join me on this journey, you are more than welcome. I'm slow. I walk some. ok, I walk more than just some, but I have fun.

I'll track my progress here as it goes... the good, the bad, the ugly and i'm sure the humorous... :-)

Getting it done on the fly

A common theme among triathletes is lack of time to train.  Just about all of us  have something going on in our lives which takes up precious time and energy.   Family and/or career make training for serious distances, to say the least, challenging.   That said, lack of time is a pretty lame excuse to rationalize sitting on the couch.   As an airline pilot, I became efficient in the use of the hours available to me and adapted as my job changed.  About four months ago I purchased a folding bike to bring with me on my pilot layovers.   I have trained on my Bike Friday Pocket Rocket all over the United States and make valuable use of time while away from home.

I encourage everyone to look for opportunities to fit in training wherever and whenever possible.
